La Casa De Frida
I’m back in San Antonio, Texas with another project for an existing client! Remember the Ortiz family of #ProjectFamilyFiesta? Back and January I showed you their brand new playroom, and now the adjacent guest bedroom was in need of a major makeover!
The spare upstairs bedroom had neutral, builder-beige walls and contained a dark wood furniture set. It was one of the forgotten spaces in the house and one of the last on the list to get decorated. After purchasing a new headboard and updating the ceiling fan, then putting the project off for a few months, the family needed to complete the room before the end of summer.
Here’s what we started with:
The family’s love of Mexican artist, Frida Kahlo was evident throughout the home including in the new playroom, so it was only right to carry the theme into the new bedroom suite. I selected artwork of Frida from Society6 to display above the bed creating a new focal point of the room. After deciding not to paint at this time, we’d add some color to the neutral space mimicking the floral crown in Frida’s hair including pink, teal, yellow and orange. The new Unique Loom rug from Wayfair worked perfectly with the color palette. We’d use black and white as the foundation of the space using gold and brass accents throughout. Once the West Elm duvet and bedding was selected, we’d add black and white striped and leopard print pillows giving the room a little spice.
After not totally loving the original lamps selected, we found the most beautiful hand-painted table lamps from Anthropologie Home to adorn the two gold, mirrored nightstands. Once most of the online purchases arrived, I shopped in HomeGoods, Target and Hobby Lobby for the remaining picture frames, artwork and knick-knacks. I hung the new ribbon curtains from Overstock on Project 62 brass curtain rods from Target. After adding a houndstooth bench, black dresser and gold mirror to the bedroom and floral artwork to the bathroom, the project was complete!
Take a look at the final result:
One of the best compliments a small business owner and interior designer can receive is returning business. I’m so grateful to the Ortiz family for inviting me back into their home and lives to decorate another space and hope this guest room make their visitors feel right at home for years to come!
Be Blessed,
ACG
