Blessed Little Bungalow

Powder Springs

What’s the best birthday gift you’ve ever received? Last spring, I got a call from a husband wanting to surprise his wife with BLB’s help designing their new home!

Omar and Brittany have had a lot of amazing milestones during the pandemic. The lovely couple welcomed a beautiful baby girl into the world and just moved into a gorgeous new construction home in Powder Springs, Georgia. With Brittany’s 35th birthday approaching in June, Omar reached out to inquire about Blessed Little Bungalow’s design services as a birthday gift (how sweet, right!?). Funny enough, she also emailed me about my design services that same month, so it’s safe to say this was the perfect present! I was so honored to help them design their house to reflect their family and make it feel more like home.

Here’s where things started:

The home is split of a few different levels, but the only decorated room in the house was the nursery. Omar and Brittany wanted my help with the entire main floor including the entryway, powder room, home office, kitchen, dining room and living space. We’d also tackle their master suite, mudroom and laundry space. The home was pretty much a blank canvas like most new construction, but they did have a few neutral purchases including a dining table and chairs, sectional sofa, executive desk, and wooden bedroom set. They’d also need my assistance in replacing the builder-standard lighting and adding elements that would give the house a bit more character.

After a thorough consultation and a few weeks designing, BLB created the following looks for each space:

Once approved, I was stoked to get started!

First, we needed to tackle all the home’s lighting. We added black and brass pendant lights and chandelier to the kitchen and dining room, and updated the flush lighting in the foyer, home office and bathrooms’ vanities. We also sourced a few statement chandeliers for the two-story living room and master bedroom’s vaulted ceiling. In addition to the lighting, new drapery was hung from the ceilings to elevate each room while not taking away from their home’s phenomenal natural light.

Next, because of the open floor plan, it was important to create a color palette that would flow throughout the home and add furniture that was sleek yet kid-friendly for their soon-to-be walking toddler. We created a black and white, neutral foundation for each space, but added pops of color, warmer tones (cognac leather and terracotta hues), texture (plush, patterned area rug) and brass accents to make each room feel a bit more interesting. A few examples include the new geometric wallpaper and fixture updates to the entryway’s powder room and new dining room accent wall complementing the kitchen’s marble picket tile backsplash and grey cabinets.

Once the paint dried, new lighting was installed and additional furniture was delivered, I was excited to make a few HomeGoods runs to fill in the blanks! I was able to source new abstract art, framed family photos and mirrors to adorn each room’s walls, and selected pottery, pillows, candles and other knick knacks to give the home its finishing touches. My assistant, Katesha, Brittany and I were able to complete the project in ONE long but productive install day and I’m so proud of how the home turned out!

Take a look at the finished product, captured during the holidays by Brittany herself! (She’s such a talented photographer and I’m excited to invest in her business too. We’ll definitely be working together on future BLB projects!):

I’m so grateful to Omar and Brittany for trusting me with their new home as they enter this exciting chapter as a family. I pray that my design work adds serenity, ease, and joy to their lives and that their home continues to bless them for many years to come!
