Sweet Dreams

Today on the blog, I’m breaking down the details of my bedroom refresh in my new San Francisco apartment! As a new AllModern Ambassador (hooray!), I’ll also share decor that you can use to update your own bedroom space this season.

As I shared earlier this month on the blog in Bungalow in the City, I repurposed a lot of my bedroom furnishings from my previous apartment in my new space. Due to limited space,  I swapped out my bedroom rug with the one in my living room, and reused my queen size bed, nightstand, table lamp, curtains, picture ledges and curtain rod and sunburst mirror. Once I moved everything in, something just felt like it was missing, but I didn’t have a ton of square footage (or budget!) to add more furniture like a sitting chair, bench or dresser. So I made a few purchases including a floor lamp, wallpaper, plants and artwork that helped me transform the space with a fresher look:

If you’re drawing a blank on how to refresh your own bedroom within a limited budget, here are a few recommendations for places you can start:

Fresh New Bedding

Earlier this year, I purchased a weighted blanket to assist with my anxiety and improve my sleep. With this move, I took it a step further by updating my bedding with new blush sheets and a boho pom-pom duvet cover. My new bedding is incredibly soft and helps the bed I’m used to climbing into feel like a boutique hotel escape. It’s amazing what some fluffy new layers can do to upgrade the look of your resting place AND take your nightly rest to the next level.

Accent Wall

Don’t be afraid to splash some color on the wall! Now that I’m in an apartment versus my own purchased home, even though I had my landlord’s permission, I didn’t want to worry myself with painting my new bedroom space only to have to repaint it when I decided to move out. So I decided to buy a wallpaper mural that was peel-and-stick to apply the wall behind my headboard. This addition was easy to install and instantly transformed the space into a more intimate, moody sanctuary to wake up and end my days in.

Ambient Lighting

Though I already had a petite table lamp for my nightstand, I wanted to add more lighting for when I’m lounging in bed reading, journaling or winding down for the evening. As updating ceiling lighting was not an option, I invested in a new, mid-century modern brass and marble floor lamp from AllModern. After a quick 10-minute assembly, my bedroom space had a beautiful new lamp that added some glam sophistication to the vibe I was creating without taking up much floor space.

Artwork + Personal Touches

Lastly, I believe that every corner of your home should reflect you! So it was important to me to add family photos like one from the 90s of me and my late grandpa, and various artwork that would inspire me and make me smile daily. Three of the art pieces in the space I already owned, but others I found at inexpensive price points in local stores. I also added fresh flowers in a vase on my nightstand and a few succulents on the window sill. My new bedroom gets little natural light and airflow, so these little touches gave the tight space a dose of life.

I’m so happy with my bedroom refresh, especially because I executed it cheaply and without much effort or fuss. Here’s the finished product:
