Make It Mine
in partnership with Ruggable
Back in the spring, I had the honor of designing a Brookdale Living resident, Betty Moore’s home at Brookdale Living, an assisted and independent living community in Newnan, Georgia.
Betty is a pretty remarkable woman! Born and raised in Cedartown, Georgia, Betty had a lifelong career at Delta Air Lines serving people and traveling across the world. She then spent her retired years working with dogs at Doggie Day Care and has volunteered with the Humane Society for over 30 years. She and her 8-year old dog, Blossom, are so deserving of a refreshed living space in her downsized home, and Blessed Little Bungalow was thrilled to partner with Brookdale Living on their show, Make It Mine!
Here's a look at where we started….
Betty’s living space was pretty plain and neutral, which is very different from her joyful taste and spunky personality. As a fellow color-lover, that was the first thing I wanted to change in her space! With a limited budget, we’d prioritize painting an accent wall and adding more pops and hues with a new area rug, curtains, artwork, and throw pillows. With limited natural light, I also wanted to update Betty’s lighting throughout her home with a new ceiling fan, flush mount light in the dining area, floor and table lamps. Here’s what I envisioned….
MOOD BOARD:
I was initially told by the Brookdale team (and later by Betty herself) that including an area rug in my design may be hazardous. Betty uses a cane, walker and wheelchair to get around, and although she loved her previous rug, it had to be removed because it caused her to trip and fall months prior. Betty was really bummed about the colorful rug being removed, so I wanted to find a safe alternative for her that would adhere to the floors keeping Betty safe, while also being pet-friendly for Blossom and easy to clean and care for by the Brookdale staff.
I reached out to Ruggable to see if they could help! Ruggable® has a patented rug system that comes in two pieces - a lightweight, washable rug cover and a non-slip rug pad. Ruggable’s rug covers are stain-resistant, water-resistant, and designed to fit in any washing machine for easy cleaning. Their rugs are also interchangable, so if Betty got tired of the rug cover I selected, she could easily order a new cover to give the space a new look. Knowing Betty liked “brick red,” I selected Watercolor Floral Coral Rug for Betty’s space and reinforced the edges to ensure she wouldn’t trip again. After learning about Make It Mine and hearing Betty’s story, Ruggable blessed us by generously gifting the rug for Betty’s living room!
After a long day of cleaning, painting, assembling, installing and decorating, the space BLB designed for Betty was executed and we were ready to welcome her back into her home. Click the link below to watch the full episode and see how the BLB team transformed her living space!
So what do you think!? How did we do with the transformation?

AFTER:
I’m so grateful for this amazing experience to makeover Betty’s home and the blessing we were able to give her with her redesigned space. A big thanks to my team members, Keia and Travis of 404/ATL Handyman for helping me transform the space so quickly. I’d also like to thank the team at Ruggable for generously donating their Watercolor Floral Coral Rug for Betty’s living space to meet her needs, keep her safe, and make her smile. She loves it!
Lastly, if you loved the episode, please show support by voting for us (Season 3, Episode 4) for the People’s Choice Award this season! If we win, a charitable donation will be made on behalf of Betty and I to Lifeline Animal Project, an Atlanta-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization on a mission to end shelter euthanasia of healthy and treatable animals in Fulton and Dekalb counties.
Please VOTE HERE! Voting ends on November 2nd! Thank you and stay tuned for the announcement of the winner!
Be Blessed,
Amber
