Ashley is the epitome of a go-getter. She’s a #girlboss in the public relations industry and known to always put her family, friends and career before herself. Well with her recent move back to Atlanta, Ashley decided to treat herself for once. She wanted to ensure her new condo was designed with just her in mind, so she asked BLB to assist in getting her life and glam back by designing her new home.
After a few weeks of shopping for a place, Ashley’s real estate agent located a beautiful two bedroom, two-bathroom condo in a Buckhead high-rise. The space was move-in-ready and all the aesthetics were beyond charming. From the hardwood floors and stainless steel appliances to the rustic wood ceilings, chandeliers and impeccable view, there wasn’t much to do to prep for the design. On top of all that, Ashley already had a few designer pieces in her home. Although there was quite a bit of existing furniture we’d need to incorporate, it would be easy to blend newer items into each space.
Ashley has a very particular taste. When asked what style she was going for, her response was “Kourtney Kardashian” and I almost lost it. LOL! Have you seen her homes in Architectural Digest? Very modern, glam, clean and eclectic. Black & white, with bold colors and patterns. Oversized, but not overdone. Nothing cookie-cutter. Custom and authentic. I was beyond excited. Though Ashley prides herself in having nice things, she didn’t want to spend a fortune. Also right up my alley. This would be a design match made in heaven.
With Ashley in Atlanta and myself in San Antonio, the first phase of the project started online. I knew that the biggest challenge of the design would be Ashley’s open living space, the focal point and the biggest room in the home. The white walls and grey furniture offered a simple foundation, but we’d need to add some black & white and pops of color to get Ashley the vibe she was looking for. I decided to screenshot and send a few furniture items to her to gauge her interest. I began with some emerald green accent chairs, mirrored chests, pillows and abstract artwork similar to some she already owned. She fell in love with each item and quickly purchased most of them from Joss & Main. Once we reached a comfortable stopping point, I figured we could locate the rest of what we needed in person.
After all of the ordered items were delivered, we decided to attack the second phase of the project and final install over a 3-day weekend. Upon flying in, we went straight to work Friday morning and headed to my favorite first stop on client shopping excursions: At Home. The first item I wanted to find was a new area rug for the living room. The existing Moroccan shag rug was a bit “stingy,” not large enough to layer underneath the love seat and sofa due to its small size. The existing coffee table was also big and bulky, so we’d want to find a pattern that would take the attention from it and make the room feel wider than it was. This beautiful black & white houndstooth rug was the perfect pattern and size. I loved this choice because it wasn’t a basic stripe or a loud animal print. It is the perfect compromise, especially for a gender-neutral space and plays well with other patterns.
We ended up filling up two or three carts at At Home with an assortment of purchases including framed artwork and quotes for the new gallery wall, bookends, canvases, an animal hide rug, pillows and bedding for the bedrooms and a few knick knacks for the kitchen and dining room. After unloading car back at the condo, we hit the streets again! This time to HomeGoods, World Market, West Elm and Target. By the end of the day, we had most of what we needed. After we unpacked all of the purchases and shared a few celebratory glasses of wine, we worked through both nights assembling furniture for the living room, arranging all of the new items in both bedrooms and installing the new black & white gallery wall in the entryway.
This project was one of my absolute favorites! The new living room now topped Ashley’s spectacular view of the city and would offer an inviting space to entertain for intimate dinners and party guests. Though the two bedrooms didn’t need a ton of work, the finishing touches added to the master and guest suites would also offer additional comfort to the overnight guests Ashley hosted often on weekends. Lastly, Ashley’s smiles throughout the process and after the final reveal was all the motivation I needed to conquer the two-bedroom condo in one weekend successfully!
I’m thrilled that Ashley loves the new space and hope you do too. Take a look…
