Moving across the country to start a new chapter can be overwhelming, so this growing family contacted Blessed Little Bungalow to help make their new house feel more like home.
Eskias and Crystal Marie moved to Charlotte, NC from Los Angeles, CA into a gorgeous, new construction suburban home. As two busy professionals working from home with an even busier toddler, decorating a two-story, 2,000+ square foot house felt a bit daunting. As this was their first time outfitting an entire house, they wanted everything to feel cohesive in the open concept floor plan without being too matchy-matchy. They’d already started to make some updates including the kitchen fixtures and hardware, and ordering a few furniture pieces, but sought out Blessed Little Bungalow’s help to tie it all together.
BEFORE:
First, we transformed the foyer and front living room. The family wanted a place to store their shoes and coats in the foyer, so we added a coat rack and beautiful marble and Acadia wood console to the hallway to meet their functional needs. Instead of a formal living space, the family wanted to create a library in the front room that was welcoming to guests, but also provided a space to relax and store and display a large portion of their collection of books in addition to the home office. We painted the room a moody blue and added a bright blue and green abstract rug to the floor for added color. We also purchased three bookcases to line up under the windows and positioned an oversized chair and a half in the corner to complete the comfy reading nook.
Next, we moved on to the kitchen and dining room. These spaces were partially finished with updated hardware and lighting, but the kitchen needed new gold pendant lights to match the rest of the main floor and we painted the island a bright navy blue to breakup all the white space between the kitchen cabinets, backsplash tile and walls. The new cognac leather counter stools matched the living space’s leather sectional perfectly and greeted guests with a stylish and comfortable place to sit at every turn.
Lastly, we transformed the indoor and outdoor living spaces. We painted a blue accent wall behind the TV to complement the new blue kitchen island and library. We also added blue velvet curtains and blue and gold artwork to the living and dining spaces that flowed well with the rest of the main floor’s color palette. From there, we just needed to add a few accents to complement the couple’s African and Coastal artwork and throw pillows for the sofa. Although we kept the added décor pretty minimal, each piece contributed a new texture, pattern or fabric, giving the home a more curated and collected look. The family also had a screened in porch adjacent to the dining space that we outfitted with new furniture to provide a comfortable place to relax and unwind outdoors. Here’s the finished product:
AFTER:
I’m so grateful to the McDaniels family for welcoming me into their home and lives to help them transform their new house into a home that reflected their values, identity and style. Now that Phase I of the project is complete, I can’t wait to see how we transform their bedrooms as their beautiful family grows from three to FOUR later this year!
Be Blessed,
ACG
