It’s Week FOUR of the One Room Challenge® and I’m super excited about the progress made thus far! This week I’m going to share the final products I’ve selected, explain their purpose and my reason for including them, and where each item will go in the space.
Wallpaper
As a reminder from last week, I selected Becca by scarlette_soleil from Spoonflower. I’m so obsessed with the deep and moody colors and the whimsical vibe it’ll provide the space without being too girly or busy.
Sleeper Sofa
Although I have a dedicated guest room downstairs, I needed another space for guests to sleep without pulling out the inflatable mattress. When my nephews and niece visit, they usually opt to sleep on the loft floor in their sleeping bags, but I wanted to give them a true mattress that I could dress with sheets and bedding that would provide more comfort. I selected this plush sleeper sofa in a Golden Oak color and performance velvet fabric with a pull-out queen-size memory foam-top mattress.
Area Rug
With all the color and pattern in the wallpaper, and potential color and pattern with furniture and décor, I wanted to pick a rug that added a bit of color to differentiate from the existing carpet but felt a bit muted to not overpower the space. This rainbow ombre handwoven rug is the perfect plush and modern, yet subtle step up from a solid color.
Wooden Storage
I knew I wanted to add a media cabinet and shelving to the space, but with the short and angled walls, I’d have to be careful about the height of such furnishings selected. Here’s an example of a good case I found online, but I’d continue to shop for deals at local stores that would accommodate the space’s storage needs. Something walnut or mango wood would add some earthiness and warmth to the loft, while also giving a nod to the mid-century modern vibe of my home.
Accent Chairs
In addition to the 7-foot sectional sofa, I wanted to add two or three chairs where the kids could hang out by themselves or gather with a group of friends. I knew I wanted to find a couple of swivel chairs that would be fun for them to swing around in, but also make conversation easy. I also wanted to find the perfect leather lounge chair to add some masculinity to the space and give Auntie Am a quiet corner to relax for a little reading or comfortable nap.
Egg Swing
I’ve always wanted to design a space with an egg swing! I have one attached to a stand on my back porch but having one hanging from the ceiling indoors is such a fun addition to a room! This peacock-inspired rattan chair will be the cherry on top of the room’s design!
Other than that, there’s lighting, pillows, throws, artwork, and knick-knacks left to add to style the space. Easy, right? Well, at least that’s what I’m hoping for…
Can you believe we’re already halfway through the One Room Challenge®!? Now that I’ve shown you all the ingredients, it’s time to start shopping and put the recipe together!
Be Blessed,
Amber
