Most of my clients are amazing, but some just make you immediately feel like family. The Lewis family is a prime example of that, and I’ve loved every moment spent with them this past year.
When I first met Trishonda and Darian, I instantly fell in love with their energy, humor, and how they welcomed me into their home. Well Darian wasn’t so welcoming at first, he thought I’d be spending all their hard-earned money! LOL Safe to say he warmed up to me after seeing what BLB could do! The family recently purchased a beautiful new home tucked away in quaint neighborhood in Sandy Springs. It had a ton of character and Trishonda did an amazing job decorating and furnishing the home thus far, but with a full-time job, two teenagers and a toddler running around, and another baby girl on the way, the family needed some help. They’d recently completed the home office and living room, but wanted BLB’s help updating the breakfast nook, and designing the formal dining room, master suite, and toddler’s room.
Zoe had a big personality and needed bedroom to match but grow with her. Also, with a little sister, Reagan on the way, we needed to ensure there was enough space for the girls to share the room, closet, and on-suite bathroom once the youngest grew out of her bassinet and crib. Here’s where things started:
BEFORE:
Zoe’s room was a blank canvas. Trishonda already purchased a few staple furniture pieces from Crate and Kids and West Elm, but the room was in desperate need of some color, attitude, and Black Girl Magic! Trishonda also had a few wallpaper and fabric swatches to inspire the color palette, but asked that we avoid the typical pink, princess characters, and girliness as we crafted the new design. I had a ton of ideas inspired by her selections and looked forward to bringing the space to life. After a few rug swaps, here’s where we landed on the mood board:

DURING:
Once the lighting was updated and we began buying some of the preliminary furniture, we had the idea of adding the peel-and-stick wallpaper between millwork instead of covering the entire accent wall. I called my friends at The Board Room Accent Wall to complete it and they did an excellent job executing our vision! We purchased the cutest mint green and acrylic nightstand from Anthropologie and added colorful bedding from Target to the Crate & Kids bed. After sourcing new artwork at the local HomeGoods and Etsy, we were still at a loss for the area rug. I saw several great options online, but we didn’t make a decision on one until the day of the photoshoot! Although the space was now overflowing with different colors, textures, patterns and pieces, each new addition complemented the existing furniture well and combined, created a beautiful new room for Zoe to love! Check it out!
AFTER:
Thank you, my sweet Zoe for letting me design your room for you and Reagan to love for years to come!
And to Trishonda and Darian - thank you for trusting me with your beautiful home and I can’t wait for us to complete the dining room, master suite, and basement later this year! Stay tuned for those transformed spaces in Part Two of Project Abernathy!
