Jaméz’s home in Columbia, South Carolina is gorgeous! But she needed some assistance designing her master suite on the main floor. In two months, we were able to create the breathtaking, relaxing masterpiece she dreamed of waking up to each morning.
Jaméz is a busy bee. Between long hours at the hospital as a Nurse Practitioner, serving in her local church, and spending time with family and friends, she hadn’t made the time to make her new house feel like home. As she prepared for the New Year, she wanted to transform her master suite into a true retreat where she was intentional with her mornings and relaxed later in the evenings. I was so excited when Jaméz contacted me to help give her bedroom a completely new look.
Here’s where we started:
In October, I visited Jaméz’s home to find builder beige walls, dark wood furniture and a bit of a blank canvas. The room’s color scheme was white, grey and purple. Though she liked moody colors (blues, greys, indigos, etc.), she wasn’t sure if using so many of those colors would make the space too dark. I wandered over to the nightstand and found a faux flower vase that I loved and suggested we use it as a source of inspiration for the space. She agreed, and I went right to work!
A few weeks later, I put the following plan together:
We’d modify the layout of the bedroom to give the new bed more square footage to be displayed on top of a new area rug that would add color to the space without taking up too much of it. We’d paint a navy accent wall behind the new bed to make the blush color pop and add mirrored nightstands on each side to reflect the new color scheme throughout. We’d then rearrange the existing furniture making room for a new chaise and shelving creating a space for Jaméz to relax, read and rest outside of her actual bed.
The new king size channel tufted upholstered bed would serve as the focal point of the room. You can find the Candace bed from Meridian Furniture online with Wayfair, Beverly Hills Furniture NYC, The Classy Home and other various vendors. I fell in love with this piece the minute I found it and so did Jaméz. The bed’s lucite legs also looked amazing on top of the West Elm Sunset Lake rug and complemented the mirrored night stands from Wayfair. We also ordered the Melania chaise lounge from Wayfair in navy to pull more blues to the opposite side of the space.
After ordering the larger items one by one, I’d schedule a visit over the holidays to return to Columbia and purchase items in stores with Jaméz locally. Of course, HomeGoods was among one of our first stops where we found mirrored frames for the new gallery wall, lamps for the nightstands and these GORGEOUS metallic navy, gold and silver pillows for the bed. On another shopping trip, I also located some blush pillows to match the bed and a new Tahari Home comforter set, a much cheaper but more luxe-looking alternative to the West Elm bedding we’d purchased online weeks prior. We accessorized the space with several of Jaméz books reflecting her love for our former First Lady Michelle Obama and a navy and gold geode canvas she had stored in a guest room. Repurposing some of Jaméz’s existing décor including art, books, furniture and the faux flower vase saved us hundreds on the design while also personalizing the space just for her.
Though Jaméz was anxious to sleep in her new master suite, she committed to waiting until after my photographer took photos of it in the New Year so not a single detail would be out of place. Even if it was, I don’t think either of us would have noticed. The space just turned out so stunning!
Take a look:
I’m beyond thrilled with the final result and so is Jaméz! Not only is her new master suite now fit for a queen, but we’ll also begin designing additional rooms in her lovely home very soon. I’m grateful Jaméz’s new bedroom is everything she was looking for to wake up energized, get away to and fall asleep in peacefully.

Until next time, be blessed!
