Christmas is a joyful time of year, especially for children. This year I helped two parents play Santa to surprise their 3-year-old daughter, Carrington with a Big Girl Bedroom!
The Chapman family lives in Columbia, South Carolina, my home state. As I began preparing for my trip home for the holidays, I was contacted by Carrington’s mom, Ashley on Instagram about desperately needing BLB’s help. She wanted to convert Carrington’s crib to a bed and redesign her room just three weeks before Christmas! :-O Luckily the odds were in our favor. I’d just wrapped up a few projects and was planning to fly into Columbia soon. I’d be able to build a design and shopping list quickly for Ashley and she’d shop in stores and online prior to the install.
But first, let’s take a look at where we started…
Carrington’s room was filled with her nursery furniture, grey and yellow paint and décor purchased for the younger version of her. The room wasn’t huge in size, but once Ashley got it decluttered and reorganized, we’d have a blank slate to work with. Ashley wanted her daughter’s room to have a pink, gold, black and white color palette, with a soft, girly design that would grow along with Carrington. The espresso crib would convert into a full-size bed and Ashley wanted to add a nightstand, teepee and reading corner. I put together a few mood boards and décor options for Ashley to consider.
Once we finalized the color palette, layout and key items for the shopping list, Ashley began shopping locally and online. Upon my arrival a few weeks later, Ashley’s husband, Scottie painted the entire room a baby blush pink, with the exception of one wall that would become the black and white striped accent wall I’d line with painters tape. Once the painting was complete, while drying, we installed the white picture ledges for books on the reading wall and positioned the teepee next to it in the corner.
The alphabet circle rug from Pottery Barn Kids was one of my favorite additions to the space, along with the gold metallic wall sticker we’d arrange like a rain shower from the ceiling corner. Lastly, I hung each of the Target, Etsy and Hobby Lobby artwork with framed photos on the wall opposite of the bed into a gallery wall and centered Carrington’s new gold monogram above her bed adorned with bedding and pillows from Target. The project install came together in the matter of a few hours, then revealed to Carrington by her parents a few days before big holiday.
Here’s the final product, a.k.a. Carrington’s Christmas present:
I’m so glad the Chapman family contacted me to be a part of this special project for such a special little girl! The most enjoyable parts were getting to know Carrington with her big personality, and her older brother, Ashton peeking in throughout the process as his bedroom is now next on the list! Carrington turned 4 this month and now has the perfect place to wake up each morning, get dressed, play, read, host sleepovers and get tucked in every night. Thank you, Ashley for letting me in on this little secret, and help create a space that Carrington will love for years to come!
